Maine Maritime Academy’s Tidal Energy Demonstration and Evaluation Center (TEDEC) in Castine is becoming ever more interesting to overseas companies, which want to test their tidal power technology.

TEDEC acquired a sought-after series of permits to test scale models of tidal power projects, which makes the center one of the few to have acquired these permits from the U.S. Government, the Working Waterfront news site writes.

Rick Armstrong, executive director of TEDEC, says that the center will continue to develop and grow despite nascent tidal power industry, because of the financial support from the Maine Technology Institute and other sources.

“We’re really going to establish a state-of-the-art testing center for tidal devices at the Maine Maritime Academy,” the news site quotes Mr. Armstrong as saying.
