Moog, a leader in providing blade pitch control, slip ring and rotor monitoring solutions for the wind energy industry, announced the launch of its new AC Moog Wind Turbine Pitch System in China.

Adopting a compact modular architecture, the new system has distinct advantages in safety, reliability and an overall reduction in the cost of energy, in addition to a remote terminal usability feature as well.

A pitch system monitors and adjusts the angle of the wind turbine blades that controls the rotation speed of the rotor. The new modular design of Moog pitch system makes it easy to integrate into customers’ turbines and achieve a significant reduction in complexity. The wind turbine manufacturers and operators can benefit from less downtime for maintenance and higher productivity as the total number of separated components and their costs in the system is reduced.

The Moog AC Pitch Servo technology has proven to be very safe and reliable with key components TÜV certified for compliance with the certification guideline GL2010 and the international standard ISO 13849-1. Besides, the integration of Moog Ruggedized Motion Controller and associated software has been extensively tested by Moog to ensure the system’s reliability for use in harsh environment.

The new AC pitch system has been successfully integrated in Envision Energy’s new 4MW offshore smart wind turbine and has been put into operation in Rudong intertidal wind farm with a proven record of at least 20% higher power generation-capacity than its counterparts. The Envision 4MW model is designed to exploit the wind resources in China’s coastal and offshore area.

“Moog is a leading supplier of precision motion control products and systems,” said Dave Fijas, Group Vice President-Energy, Moog. “The past twenty years have seen our firm commitment to China’s energy market, where the wind power industry is prospering rapidly. We keep innovating new technologies for wind turbine manufacturers and operators to help them tackle problems and reach an optimal state of wind turbines’ performance. With the successful operation of the new AC Wind Turbine Pitch System on Envision Energy’s turbine, Moog will now be offering this solution to other customers in China.”
