Strainstall Marine, a part of James Fisher and Sons plc, has secured a five-figure order to supply stress monitoring systems for Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries (HSHI) to be fitted aboard a new 405m floating drydock.
The floating drydock hull number S708 is owned by Qatar Petroleum, the State-owned oil company and the monitoring systems are scheduled for installation in February 2014.
The systems to be fitted are Strainstall Marine’s StressAlert HSMS and Torsional monitoring technology, which has been developed using their 40 years’ experience at the leading edge of load measurement, strain and stress determination. Hull structural integrity is continuously monitored and displayed, and advanced algorithms contained within StressAlert enable predictions of hull status and deterioration to be determined.
Frank Rose, Strainstall Marine Systems Engineer commented “ This is the first system of this type that Strainstall has supplied and is the largest floating structure that the StressAlert system is fitted aboard. We are delighted to have won this order especially as we were competing against strong local Korean manufacturers ”.
This is the second recent order for StressAlert systems that Hyundai Heavy Industries have placed with Strainstall Marine, following a contract to supply their Hull Stress Monitoring System to one of the largest container carriers ever built. A spokesperson for Hyundai Heavy Industries said “ HHI are pleased to award the order of these systems to Strainstall and look forward to continuing their strong relationship ”.
