Systems integrator Alewijnse Marine Systems has been awarded the contract for the full electrical refit of the seismic vessel Polarcus Naila. The ultra-modern, 12 streamer 3D/4D seismic vessel will arrive in February 2014 at the Damen-owned yard Shipdock Amsterdam for a refit scheduled to last 35 days.
The refit involves the replacement of the current thrusters. The ship repair and conversion yard Shipdock in Amsterdam has subcontracted the electrical repairs and modifications to Alewijnse Marine Systems, a leading systems integrator in the commercial, naval, offshore and superyacht sectors, covering all aspects of marine electrical engineering.
Short delivery time
With just a five-week window in which to complete the project, Alewijnse will assemble a thirty-strong team of technicians to ensure that the work will be completed on time and to specification.
In its role in the refit, Alewijnse will work on a number of important systems on board Polarcus Naila. The main element will be the delivery, pulling, installation and connection of four kilometres of power cables for the new propulsion rooms. Alewijnse has also been tasked with the supply and connection of new lighting, smoke alarms, telephones, breakers, davits and winches. There is also a series of modifications to be undertaken on a number of switch boards.
Polarcus Naila
The ultra-modern, 12 streamer 3D/4D seismic vessel Polarcus Naila is one of seven high-end 3D seismic vessels in the fleet of marine geophysical company Polarcus. Delivered in 2010, she was built using the ULSTEIN SX124 design. The vessel combines the latest developments in maritime systems with the most advanced seismic technology commercially available. Polarcus operates worldwide providing towed marine seismic acquisition services and multi-client projects to the oil and gas industry.
Shipdock
Damen-owned Shipdock is a Dutch shipyard and steel manufacturer with offices in Amsterdam and Harlingen. The shipyard specialises in repair and maintenance. The yard in Amsterdam is located on a part of the site of the former Amsterdamsche Droogdok Maatschappij.
This significant order from Shipdock further reinforces the position that Alewijnse has developed in the offshore refit and retrofit market and demonstrates the wide range of skills and capabilities that the company can bring to projects of this complexity.
The conversion project of Polarcus Naila will be supervised by offshore specialist Alewijnse Marine Rotterdam, part of Alewijnse Marine Systems.
