The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Sacramento District, released its final general re-evaluation report and environmental impact statement for the Berryessa Creek project for public review and comment.
The document outlines the study’s recommended plan to reduce flood risk from Berryessa Creek which would build new flood walls and box culverts and widen the channel along a 2.2-mile stretch of Berryessa Creek between Interstate 680 and East Calaveras Boulevard.
The study and proposed project are a cooperative effort between the Corps and the Santa Clara Valley Water District.
All comments received on the draft document during its 45-day public review period that ended May 5, 2013 were addressed and incorporated into the final report as appropriate.
A record of decision will be signed after the review period concludes to outline the selected alternative, its environmental effects and appropriate mitigation measures. This will also formally complete the National Environmental Policy Act process for the study.
The Corps’ San Francisco District would manage construction of the project, if it is approved and funded by Congress.
