The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Sacramento District is scheduled to begin a 30-day public review period Jan. 17, following the release of its final general reevaluation report and environmental impact statement for the Truckee Meadows Flood Control Project.

The documents outline the reevaluation’s recommended plan to reduce flood risk in the Reno/Sparks metropolitan area from the Truckee River by constructing new levees and flood walls, and integrating floodplain terracing to help increase river capacity. The proposed project is a cooperative effort between the Corps and the Truckee River Flood Management Authority.

A record of decision, which outlines the selected alternative, its environmental effects and appropriate mitigation measures, is scheduled to be signed after the review period concludes. This will also formally complete the National Environmental Policy Act process for the study.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Sacramento District provides planning, engineering, project management, environmental restoration and construction services to military and civilian customers in parts of eight western states, including California, Nevada, Utah, Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Oregon and Wyoming.
