What does offshore wind technology have in common with a trip to Mars?

Well, along with space tourism, interplanetary exploration, physicists’ search for dark matter, Formula E and electric cars, offshore wind power will become one of the coolest technologies in 2014 in the United States, according to CNN.

This year, the U.S is set to take the development of its offshore wind projects much further, with floating wind technology already put to test in Maine. Taking into account that the country has proposed projects along the Atlantic coast, a future renewable energy source number one will probably be wind.

Even though offshore wind power is nothing new in Europe (where the first offshore wind farm was installed in 1991 in Denmark), the U.S. is still on the doorstep of launching construction of its first wind power project at sea.
