The Mauritius Ports Authority (MPA) is moving forward with the plans for the extension and strengthening of the Mauritius Container Terminal (MCT) Quay Project at Port Louis Harbour.
This development program will include dredging works to deepen the existing navigational channel leading to the Mauritius Container Terminal as well as maintenance dredging works in the navigational channel to its Multipurpose Terminal (Terminal II).
The scope of the works will consist of:
– Provision of the necessary cutter suction dredgers and all associated plant and equipment required for dredging in all types of material including hard coral and rock and subsequent disposal of the dredged spoil to the designated locations;
– Dredging in all types of soils in the port basin at the Container Terminal and in the English Channel up to 16.5m depth below chart datum, including transfer and disposal of the dredged spoil at the designated locations;
– Dredging in all types of soils in the navigational channel to the Multipurpose Terminal and alongside Quay No 1 up to 13.5m depth below chart datum, including transfer and disposal of the dredged spoil at the designated locations;
– To carry out all other activities associated with dredging such as Hydrographic Survey and Jet Probing for completion of the dredging project.
The contractor will prepare the disposal sites, including levelling, spreading and creating internal basins with using fill material available at Fort William within the bunded areas, and carry out all associated additional works required to mitigate adverse effects of dredging and land reclamation as per the Environment Impact Assessment (EIA) Report.
