Zeus, the organiser of the World LNG Fuels conference, which took place on January 21-23 at the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston, announced the LNG fueled ferry Francisco as the winner of the 2014 Black Diamond Award.

The ferry, owned and operated by Buquebus, operates on the Rio de la plata between Buenos Aires and Montevideo.

Francisco has also set records for fastest commercial ship at 58.1 knots, using its twin GE LM2500 gas turbines.

On shore, the ferry is supported by a liquefaction facility using seven of Galileo’s Cryobox liquefaction modules to produce roughly 49,000 gallons of LNG per day.

The annual Black Diamond Award is given to the top LNG fuel project to advance technology, open new markets, and achieve the smoothest execution considering the degree of difficulty.
