Qatargas-chartered LNG vessels recently carried out the first ship-to-ship (STS) transfer of LNG between two Q-Flex type LNG tankers. The vessels were anchored in Singapore, according to an e-mailed statement sent to LNG World News.
“ The transfer of 211,000 cbm, which was conducted utilising in-house equipment and contractor with LNG STS expertise, commenced on 22nd January and completed on 28th January 2014,” the statement said .
The ships involved in the STS were the 215,000 cbm Al Gharrafa and the 217,000 cbm Al Ghashamiya. The Al Garrafa LNG tanker collided with a Hanjin boxship at the end of December off Singapore, an accident that smashed the bow of the Q-Flex tanker.
