STX Offshore & Shipbuilding has launched the second ice class LNG tanker, SCF Mitre, ordered by Russia’s Sovcomflot under a long-term agreement with Shell, the Russian Maritime Register of Shipping (RS) said in a statement.
The first tanker, SCF Melampus, was launched on 5 November 2013. The delivery of SCF Melampus is planned for the late 2014, SCF Mitre – for early 2015.
The LNG tankers, with cargo capacity of about 170,000 cbm, are fitted with the equipment needed for operation in low temperatures that will provide for round-the-year transportation of LNG from all existing terminals to the global market.
