SRM Projects, a Nanaimo based energy engineering firm, has recently been awarded investigative licenses for south Discovery Passage and Seymour Narrows to explore the potential for tidal power development in the region.

“We have been working with SRM for the past couple years, and the award of investigative licenses is a natural next step in the progression of this project,” says Vic Goodman, CEO of Rivercorp, Campbell River’s economic development commission.

“Building on the wave analysis and modeling in the City’s Tidal Power Feasibility Study completed in 2011, SRM Projects will conduct an assessment, which will include measuring tidal and current activity this spring/summer and community and First Nations engagement,” says Ron Neufeld, deputy city manager and general manager of operations for the City of Campbell River.

SRM Projects will continue to work with Rivercorp and Marine Renewables Canada to encourage the development of tidal energy in the Campbell River area.
