Previous plans for the reform of the German Renewable Energy Act (EEG), involving cuts of wind energy subsidies and reduction of wind energy development, have been altered.
After a number of German states complained on the initial plans, German Chancellor Angela Merkel met with the country’s 16 state premiers at an energy summit in Berlin on April 1. They agreed to allow the development of more onshore wind projects than previously planned, and to lift proposed limitations to support for offshore wind projects, according to German media.
The German government will discuss and possibly adopt the new draft bill to the Renewable Energy Act next week.
