Liam McArthur, Member of the Scottish Parliament for Orkney, has welcomed the news that DP Energy took over SSE Renewables’ Westray South tidal power project to be developed in Orkney.

DP Energy will undertake the development of the project, which has the potential for installation of up to 200MW of tidal turbines over two phases.

“The coming years will be crucial in determining whether or not Orkney is able to benefit fully from the wealth and job creation opportunities presented by its world class tidal resources. The announcement of DP Energy’s takeover of the Westray project is a small but important step along the way,” the Orcadian news site quotes Mr. McArthur as saying.
