The Isle of Man could see huge benefits from offshore wind development after Tynwald gave its support to the offshore energy strategy, writes Isle of Man (IOM) Today. A report issued by the island’s Council of Ministers said that the government could cash in £5m a year from each wind farm they lease off their shore, while creating up to 60 jobs.
“This is where green and economic policy comes together,“ said Infrastructure Minister Laurence Skelly.
The Council of Ministers also backed development of up to 2GW from offshore wind and 200MW from marine renewable power which will be exported to the UK.
The Ministers have also noted the potential downsides of this development, as it could ruin the view from the shore affecting tourism, as well as interfering with the shipping lanes and ferry routes.
