The Newport Chapter of the Surfrider Foundation will hold its monthly meeting this week at the Newport Visual Arts Center on the Nye Beach Turnaround.

Kaety Hildenbrand, extension marine fisheries educator from the Oregon State University’s (OSU) Sea Grant program, will deliver a speech during the meeting, taking place on Thursday at 6:30 p.m., according to the New Port News Times.

Hildenbrand works with the commercial fishing industry, ocean users, researchers, and the marine energy industry to address a variety of ocean issues ranging from collaborative research to wave energy development.

She will discuss current ocean energy projects in Oregon, including OSU’s wave energy testing and research projects.

The Surfrider Foundation is a non-profit grassroots organization dedicated to the protection and enjoyment of world’s oceans, waves and beaches. Founded in 1984, it currently has over 50,000 members and 90 chapters worldwide.

The foundation’s meetings are open to the public.
