Atlantic LNG, the operator of Trinidad’s only liquefaction plant, has achieved a milestone with the loading of the 3000th LNG cargo at the plant located in Point Fortin, on the southwest coast of Trinidad.
This was accomplished on July 8th with the loading of the 151,455 cbm British Emerald.
Two months ago, Trinidad and Tobago also marked its 15th year as an exporter of liquefied natural gas.
Trinidad’s Energy Minister, Kevin Ramnarine said: “ the LNG business in Trinidad and Tobago was being conducted in accordance with the highest levels of safety. In the 15 years since exportation commenced, there has been no major safety incident at the Atlantic facility or involving any cargo of LNG. ”
Trinidad and Tobago currently exports LNG to some 14 countries with 49% of LNG cargoes now bound for South America and 27.5% going to other markets in the Americas.
Ramnarine also said that a very significant commercial arrangement concerning expiration of Train 1 is expected to be signed in 2018. Talks between the Ministry of Energy and Energy Affairs and shareholders of Train 1 are expected to commence shortly as it relates to the renewal of the Train 1 contract, he added.
