IHI Corporation (IHI), Atlântico Sul Shipyard (EAS) and Federal University of Pernambuco (UFPE) will join forces in building up their workforce in shipbuilding and offshore industry.
Namely, the three parties signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) while in Brasilia, Brasil, aimed at establishing strategic cooperation framework for expansion of human resources potential in the two sectors.
The MOU was signed in the presence of Brasil’s President Dilma Rouseff and Japan’s Prime Minister Shinzo Abe in the Presidential Palace.
Pursuant to the MOU, EAS will send their IHI selected engineers to UFPE to teach in an Offshore and Shipbuilding Course – Curso de Engenharia Naval.
IHI is EAS’ main stakeholder, and has allocated skilled shipbuilding engineers with good working knowledge to EAS.
EAS will receive small groups of UFPE students for a short-term course taught by the shipyard’s engineering staff with the support of Human Development Center of the company.
UFPE and EAS provide students with the opportunity to participate in the Supervised Internship Program at the IHI Shipyard.
IHI will take on UFPE students as interns with the support of the Science Without Borders federal scholarship program (Ciência Sem Fronteiras). [mappress] Press Release, August 4, 2014
