Indonesia has officially acceded to the International Convention on the Control of Harmful Anti-fouling Systems on Ships and the International Convention on Civil Liability for Bunker Oil Pollution Damage.
H.E. Mr Teuku Mohammad Hamzah Thayeb, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Indonesia to IMO, met on 11 September IMO Secretary-General Sekimizu to present Indonesia’s instruments of accession to the two conventions.
Indonesia has formally acceded to the International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships (MARPOL Convention), Annexes III, IV, V and VI, and the International Convention on Maritime Search and Rescue (SAR Convention) in August 2008.
Over the past few years Indonesia has stepped up its efforts to ratify relevant IMO treaties and conventions.
Indonesia is fresh from signing a very important treaty with Singapore on their territorial boundaries in the eastern part of Strait of Singapore.
The treaty was signed on September 3 and is the second maritime boundary agreement between the two countries under the presidency of Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono.
