Russian Transas Group and Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering signed a contract to equip 9 Yamal LNG carriers with navigation and communications equipment.
Transas said in a statement that, under the contract 9 LNG carriers will be equipped with the complex GMDSS equipment and integrated navigation system composed of 12 MFDs.
Transas will also provide ice radar devices, fiberoptic gyrocompass (FOG), Doppler indicators, echo sounders and other navigation equipment.
Transas equipment has been chosen due to the fact that it can withstand the harsh operating conditions and extreme temperatures. The company said the equipment will be developed and tested for operations at -52°C temperatures.
Russian Maritime Register of Shipping and Bureau Veritas will be supervising the construction.
