Australian oil and gas company Woodside has called for public review of its Development Draft Environmental Impact Statement for the Browse FLNG project.
The Browse FLNG project, located around 425 km offshore north of Broome in Western Australia, aims to develop The Brecknock, Calliance and Torosa offshore gas fields.
Woodside’s Draft EIS describes the components of the Browse FLNG Development and the activities to be undertaken and communicates the proposed development to stakeholders to assist in providing opportunity for informed comment.
Furthermore, the draft EIS places the Browse FLNG Development in the context of the local and regional physical, ecological, socio-economic and cultural environment; and defines management and mitigation measures proposed to minimise potential adverse impacts to ensure they are at an acceptable level.
According to Woodside, FLNG provides a technically innovative solution to developing the remote, offshore Browse reservoirs. It combines the functions of an offshore gas receiving facility, with gas treatment and liquefaction plant, as well as storage and offloading facilities. The Browse FLNG Development is based on up to three FLNG facilities and utilises Shell’s FLNG technology in conjunction with subsea technology drawing on Woodside’s offshore development expertise.
In inviting the public to comment on the Draft EIS, Stephen Rogers , Senior Vice President, Browse FLNG Development said: “The Browse FLNG Development is a mega-project expected to deliver billions of dollars in government revenue and create substantial opportunities for Western Australia and Australia during its 40 to 50 year operations. Thank you for your interest in our development and we welcome your comments on the Draft EIS.”
Woodside said that all public submissions will be acknowledged, and once the public comment period is closed, Woodside will formally respond to comments in an EIS Supplement. The EIS Supplement along with the Draft EIS will constitute the Final EIS. Submissions may be in relation to general issues covered by the Draft EIS or on a specific element of the Browse FLNG Development. The closing date for submissions is 19 December 2014
