Maersk Oil Norway AS has received consent from the Petroleum Safety Authority (PSA) Norway to drill exploration well 6406/6-4 in the Tvillingen Sør prospect, in the Norwegian Sea.
Maersk is the operator for production licence 510 in blocks 6406/5 and 6406/6 at Haltenbanken located in the Norwegian Sea.
Exploration well 6404/6-4 is to be drilled in a prospect called Tvillingen Sør. The area is around 180 kilometres NNW of Kristiansund. Water depth at the site is approx. 260 metres.
The PSA has now given Maersk consent for exploration drilling, which will begin in December 2014 and is estimated to last 120 days. The well is to be drilled by the Leiv Eiriksson drilling rig.
Leiv Eiriksson is as semi-submersible drilling rig of the Trosvik Bingo 9000 type and was delivered by the yard in 2001. It is owned and operated by Ocean Rig. The rig is registered in the Bahamas and classified by DNV GL.
Leiv Eiriksson was issued with an Acknowledgement of Compliance by the PSA in July 2008.
