UK Energy Secretary Ed Davey has granted the development consent for the Hornsea Project One offshore wind farm located 103 kilometers off the Yorkshire coast.
On 10 September the Planning Inspectorate submitted recommendations to the Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change after which the department had three months to review the recommendations.
Secretary Davey said: “With around 2,500 local green jobs on the horizon, this is another great boost for Yorkshire and Lincolnshire.
“Making the most of Britain’s home grown energy is crucial to creating job and business opportunities in the UK, getting the best deal for consumers and reducing our reliance on foreign imports. Wind power is vital to this plan, with £14.5 billion invested since 2010 into an industry which supports 35,400 jobs.”
Developed by Smart Wind, a joint venture between Mainstream Renewable Power and Siemens Project Ventures, the wind farm comprises up to 240 wind turbines with a total capacity of 1.2GW.
This is the first project being developed in a 4GW Hornsea Zone.
