Lundin has received consent from the Petroleum Safety Authority (PSA) Norway to carry out exploration drilling of well 16/1-24, in a prospect named Gemini, in the North Sea.
The well is located in the production licence PL 338 in block 16/1 in the central North Sea, where Lundin Norway AS (Lundin) is the operator.
According to the PSA, drilling is scheduled to begin in January 2015 and will last 46 days if no discovery is made. In the event of a discovery, a sidetrack will also be drilled and the well will be production-tested. Water depth at the site is 135 metres.
The well is to be drilled by the Island Innovator drilling rig. This is a semi-submersible mobile drilling rig of the GM4000-WI type, built in 2012 at Cosco Zhoushan Shipyard in China. The rig is operated by Odfjell Drilling. It is registered in Norway and classified by DNV GL.
Island Innovator was issued with an Acknowledgement of Compliance (AoC) by the PSA in August 2013.
