Carnegie completes Perth Project’s power plant

Carnegie Wave has announced that the works on the onshore power plant for the Perth Project have been completed, and the plant is now ready to be connected to the electricity grid, it is stated in Carnegie Wave’s press release.

Carnegie has received approximately USD 45.000 grant from the Western Australian Government for the Perth Project . This payment was awarded for the completion of the onshore plant on Garden Island.

Carnegie has submitted a payment claim in the amount of USD 260.000 for the completion of the power plant to the Australian Government. The grant is provided by Australian Energy Agency (ARENA) Emerging Renewables Program.

In mid-December, Carnegie announced that its second CETO 5 wave energy unit was ready for deployment and that the first unit has clocked approximately 700 hours.

Upon completion, PWEP will be the first commercial-scale CETO grid and desalinated water connected wave energy project, the company’s press release reads.

The CETO 5 technology being utilised in the Perth Wave Energy Project (PWEP) is configured to utilise the CETO pumps to pressurise water and deliver it onshore via an underwater pipe. Onshore, high-pressure water is used to drive hydroelectric turbines, generating zero-emission electricity.
