The Swansea Bay City Region has formally supported the building of the Swansea Bay Tidal Lagoon.
Terry Matthews, a chairman of the Swansea Bay City Region, wants the government to make a swift decision regarding the project, so that it could move to the construction phase, which would generate significant investments and create approximately 2.000 jobs for the region, Wales’ media report.
“If we get this right, the region can reap the rewards for decades to come. A new global energy industry will take root in SW Wales and we must be ready to grow with it in Swansea Bay,” South Wales Evening Post quotes Terry Matthews as saying.
The Swansea Bay lagoon project has been included in the National Infrastructure Plan, and the deadline for Planning Inspectorate to submit recommendation for the Secretary of State for Energy and Climate, Ed Davey, has been set for March 10, 2015.
The Swansea Bay City Region encompasses the four local authority areas of Neath Port Talbot, Swansea, Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire.
The City Region has been designed to create jobs, boost prosperity and encourage inward investment.
