The Crown Estate and Natural Resources Wales have jointly signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) demonstrating their commitment to work together to ensure the natural resources of Wales are sustainably managed in the long term.

The memorandum sets out a framework in which the two organisations can work together to achieve mutual objectives including the implementation of principles for open discussion and transparency, sharing of data and information, and exploring further opportunities for collaboration, the press release reads.

Emyr Roberts , Chief Executive of Natural Resources Wales, said: “ We have already been working with The Crown Estate on several projects, including the mapping of natural heritage interests for the sustainable development of offshore renewable energy projects. By working together, we have been able to help The Crown Estate identify the most suitable areas for development that would have the least impacts on Wales’ important habitats, species, protected areas and landscapes.”

Among others, the Crown Estate’s assets in Wales include managing the seabed out to 12 nautical miles, including leases for offshore renewable projects such as the DeltaStream tidal project in Pembroke Port, and around 65 percent of the Welsh foreshore.

Natural Resources Wales is sponsored by Welsh Government, and it was established to ensure the natural resources and environment of Wales are sustainably maintained, enhanced and used.

The Crown Estate is an independent commercial business paying all profit to Government for the benefit of the public finances.
