An offshore support vessel (OSV) Connor Bordelon allided with a gas platform in the Gulf of Mexico on Friday (January 23). The Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement (BSEE) confirmed the incident.

The BSEE responded to a damaged unmanned platform in South Timbalier (ST) Block 27 in the Gulf of Mexico approximately 5 miles south of Port Fourchon, LA, in 50 feet of water. The ST 27 IA platform is operated by Energy XXI, GOM, LLC.

Energy XXI reported to BSEE that the ST 27 IA platform had been damaged, possibly by a vessel, at approximately 4:30 a.m. Friday. There was a fire on the platform which was extinguished through firefighting efforts by vessels in the area.

Energy XXI reported that there were gas bubbles intermittently rising to the surface and no other pollution had been observed. BSEE says that no one was injured during this event.

According to the operator, there were three wells producing oil at the time of the incident. An Emergency Shut Down (ESD) was successfully performed and production has been shut-in.

The incident will be investigated by both BSEE and the U.S. Coast Guard.
