The New Jersey Senate passed a bill last week that should help Fishermen’s Energy to get the approval for its proposed offshore wind project from the Board of Public Utilities (BPU).

With the new bill in place, cost-benefit analysis would not be required to be submitted with an application, local media writes. This would clear a major obstacle for Fishermen’s Energy, since the NJ BPU did not give a green light to the project due to its possible costliness for ratepayers.

The bill is sponsored by state senators Bob Smith and Jim Whelan, and passed the Senate vote 22-14. In order to be signed into law, the bill still needs to pass the Assembly and then signed by the governor.
