A worker on an offshore platform in the UK North Sea has been blasted with radiation on Sunday, February 15, 2015.

According to STV News , the incident occurred on BG Group’s Lomond offshore platform located in the central North Sea. The technicians were carrying out non-destructive testing (NDT) on pipework when one of the workers was exposed.

Offshore Energy Today has reached out to BG Group seeking more details on the incident. BG Group has sent a press statement from Stork, the company responsible for asset integrity and inspection on Lomond. Stork has confirmed that an incident occurred on the Lomond installation.

In the statement, Stork said: “During a routine Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) Inspection workscope, involving radiography techniques, it is suspected that an offshore worker was found to be within a barriered off area, that was put in place as per permit to work processes.”

Stork notes that “the individual has received medical evaluations both offshore and onshore and is confirmed to be safe”.

Stork is currently working closely with BG Group to conduct a full investigation.
