Statoil has informed that the licence partners have decided to temporarily halt drilling on Veslefrikk field, located in the North Sea.

According to Statoil, the stoppage is due to the time that will be needed to interpret new seismic data, which can help in bringing profitable new drilling targets on the field to maturity.

The company emphasizes that the drilling stoppage is expected to last for a minimum of six months.

The field was discovered in 1981 and was developed with a fixed wellhead platform, named Veslefrikk A, and a semi-submersible platform with process facilities and living quarters, known as Veslefrikk B. The ocean depth at field 175 meters.

Veslefrikk lies in the Norwegian North Sea block 30/3. Oil from the field is landed via the pipeline from the Oseberg development to the Sture terminal outside Bergen. Gas travels through the Statpipe system via Kårstø north of Stavanger to Emden in Germany.

Statoil is the operator with 18% interest and other licence partners are: Petoro 37 %; Talisman Resources Norge 27 %; RWE Dea Norge 13.50 % and Wintershall Norge 4.5 %.
