Statoil has awarded a contract to Reinertsen to prepare Kristin platform, located in the Norwegian Sea, for tie-in with Wintershall’s Maria field.

According to Offshore.no, the contract is worth NOK 600 million ($75.37 million). The partnership aims to develop the Maria field as a subsea facility with two subsea templates.

Back in 2013, German oil company Wintershall agreed with Statoil to use the Kristin platform. According to Wintershall’s solution, the reservoir will be linked to the already existing Statoil infrastructure nearby via subsea tie-back. Based on this plan, the Maria field will be connected with the producing platform Kristin, Heidrun and Åsgard B via two templates located on the ocean floor.

The installation work will take place between 2016 and 2018, with production scheduled to start in 2018.

Kristin & Maria

Kristin is located in the south-western part of the Halten Bank in the Norwegian Sea. It came on stream on November 3, 2005. The field has been developed with 12 production wells in four subsea templates, tied back to a semi-submersible production platform.

Kristin is currently producing 10 million cubic metres of gas per day. Daily production capacity from the field is 125,000 barrels of condensate and just over 18 million cubic metres of rich gas.

Approximately 200 kilometers from the Trondheim coastline, Maria is situated on the Halten Terrace in the Norwegian Sea. The field is located 20 kilometers east of the Kristin field and 45 kilometers south of the Heidrun field in the blocks 6407/1 and 6406/3. According to Wintershall’s data, the discovery is expected to produce around 130 million barrels of oil and just over 2 billion standard cubic meters (Sm3) of gas.

Wintershall Norge is the operator, with a 50 % share. The other licensees are Petoro with 30 % and Centrica with 20 %.
