Members of the Dutch House of Representatives have given the green light to three offshore wind farms proposed to be built 18 to 22 kilometers off North Holland, South Holland and (Borssele) Zeeland, Dutch news site NOS reports.
The plan was proposed last year by the Minister of Economic Affairs Henk Kamp and Minister of Infrastructure and Environment Melanie Schultz van Haegen.
According to the minister, it is much cheaper to use three wind areas. Even though the House agrees, part of the politicians still want more clarity on the announced cost reduction.
The Dutch Energy Agreement (Energieakkoord) sets out a target of 3,450 MW of offshore wind energy by 2023.
The construction at the proposed site off Borssele should start later this year, and the other two sites should reach that phase in 2017.
