The 3 Mtpa LNG terminal in Jebel Ali, Dubai, could see its capacity increase, according to the country’s energy minister Suhail Al Mazrouei.
Talking to The National, the minister said that in the future Dubai will increase the amount of LNG or capacity to import in order to provide flexibility to power generation. Dubai is looking for ways to meet the rise in demand for water and electricity, due to an annual expansion rate of 9% as the county’s population grows and industry power demand rises.
He added that many countries consider this the right time to up the LNG imports due to a fall in prices, with UAE looking to upgrade the Dolphin Energy compression facility with the current capacity of 2 bcf per day of gas, delivered from Qatar via a pipeline.
The country is also developing two gas fields, the 500 mcf Shah gas project and the 520 mcf Bab gas project valued at US$20 billion in total.
