ORPC’s RivGen turbine is currently under preparations before deployment at demonstration project site in Igiugig, Alaska, scheduled to take place in summer 2015.

The turbine is being fine-tuned at Nikiski, Alaska, after which it will be shipped to Igiugig prior to its deployment in the summer.

According to the Northwest National Marine Renewable Energy Center (NNMREC), the researchers from NNMREC will be going back to Iguigig with Ocean Renewable Power Co. (ORPC) to help optimize RivGen’s control system.

The acoustic measurements will then be presented at the European Wave and Tidal Conference in Nantes, France.

The RivGen power system is a 25 kW self-deploying submersible hydrokinetic system designed to reduce and stabilize the cost of power in remote communities located near rivers and tidal estuaries that currently use diesel fuel for power generation.

In September 2014, ORPC concluded the first RivGen power system demonstration project in the Kvichak river at Igiugig village.
