Norway’s Statoil has told Offshore Energy Today that the company has plugged and abandoned its Yeti wildcat located in the U. S. Gulf of Mexico.

The well was drilled from January till March 2015 with the ultra deepwater semi-submersible drilling rig Maersk Developer. The rig is under contract with Statoil until November 2015.

According to Statoil’s spokesperson, after the work on Yeti was completed, the rig has been assigned to drill Statoil’s Thorvald prospect in the Gulf of Mexico.

When asked about the results of drilling and whether the hole is dry, the spokesperson said that Statoil has not shared any details externally yet and that it is “still analyzing the results.”

In 2014, Statoil operated two exploration wells in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico, Martin and Perseus. Martin was a technical discovery, but not commercial, while Perseus did not encounter any hydrocarbons.
