Cryo AB, member of The Linde Group, said it has been awarded a contract by Meyer Turku Shipyard of Finland to build an LNG fuel gas system for the next generation high speed ferry for AS Tallink Grupp.

The advanced LNG fuel gas system consists of two 300 m³ horizontal vacuum insulated C-type tanks with associated gas handling and control systems, including Cryo AB’s high power LNG vaporizers for marine installations, the company said in a statement.

The ferry will operate in the Baltic Sea between Helsinki and Tallinn and has been designed to comply with the European Emissions Control Area, thanks to the use of LNG as fuel. The ship’s superior service speed of 27 knots is helped by a highly innovative hull form which will bring significant improvement in energy efficiency, too. The ship has a capacity of 2850 passengers and will be delivered in the beginning of 2017.
