Fundy Ocean Research Centre for Energy (FORCE) is holding a meeting next Thursday where they will discuss a proposed safety zone around the cables installed in the Minas Passage.
As a follow up to the December meeting, the tidal energy test centre has completed mapping the seabed location of the recently installed power cables.
However, as the location, where the cables are installed, is used as a lobster fishing ground, the proposed safety zone has raised concerns.
Matt Lumley , spokesman for the organization said: “On one side we have to protect those cables, but at the same time there are a number of people who lobster fish around there and they need to protect their gear.”
Mark Taylor, who has been catching lobsters in Minas Passage, said about 40 per cent of his 300 traps get laid inside the proposed safety zone.
“I’m not opposed to tidal (energy) but I think they could have found a better spot,” Taylor added.
