Malaysia’s state-owned oil and gas giant Petronas said it has achieved another milestone in the development of its first floating LNG facility by achieving 12 million man hours without any lost time injury since the project commenced in March 2012.
To commemorate this achievement, a Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Day was held at the Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) shipyard in Okpo, South Korea, on 7 April, the company said in a statement on Friday.
The PFLNG Satu will be moored in Kanowit gas field, located 180 kilometres offshore Sarawak, Malaysia and will produce 1.2 million tonnes of LNG per year.
It will play a significant role in Petronas’ efforts to unlock the gas reserves in the country’s remote and stranded fields, which had been deemed uneconomical to develop conventionally and to help meet the growing demand for gas, the statement added.
