The Blue Marlin, a Curacao-flagged heavy-lift vessel carrying the Polar Pioneer drilling rig, has arrived to its anchorage location in Port Angeles Bay, in Washington, on April 17, 2015.
The U.S. Coast Guard, Customs and Border Protection, Clallam County and City of Port Angeles boatcrews were present during the arrival of the vessel.
The 217 meters long vessel is owned by Dockwise and it is transporting the semi-submersible drilling rig Polar Pioneer destined to drill for Shell in the Chukchi sea, offshore Alaska.
To remind, six Greenpeace activists recently boarded the rig while it was being transported across the Pacific Ocean by Blue Marlin. With this move, the activists showed their objections to Shell’s Arctic drilling plans. Shell filed a complaint against the activists requesting their removal. After six days spent camping on the drilling rig, the protesters left due to to worsening weather conditions at sea.
