Pertamina of Indonesia will need 6.1 mmt per year of LNG in order to meet the forecast demand of 12 mmt by 2019-2020.
As the company’s general manager for LNG trading Arief Basuki told Platts, Pertamina will get 5.9 mmt of LNG but will still need 6.1 mmt. According to him the priority will be on domestic supply but imports will still be needed. Targeted projects are Inpex’ Masela and Chevron’s Deepwater development in Indonesia.
However, in case the domestic sources fail to deliver the needed supplies Pertamina could turn to Shell and BG Group.
The company has already secured 2.5 mmt per year and is in talks to firm up the other 3.4 mmt per year. Currently, it is in talks with Bontang LNG for the supply of 1.4 mmt per year starting from 2017.
The company is also looking to develop several LNG terminals in order to meet the expected increase in Indonesia’s demand that could reach 4.8% over the period from 2015 to 2025.
