Croatia, a country situated in the Balkans on the east side of the Adriatic Sea, plans to start construction on its first import terminal in the middle of 2016.
The construction works will last for three years and the terminal will be operational in 2019, Mladen Antunovic, managing director of LNG Croatia , state-owned company which is responsible for the LNG project, said on Monday, local media reported.
The country, which became a part of the European Union in 2013, is developing a land-based LNG terminal on the island of Krk worth about EUR 600 million.
The LNG import terminal will have a capacity of 4-6 billion cubic meters (bcm) of gas per annum, and will be able to accommodate the largest tankers in the world, Qatar’s Q-Max tankers with a capacity of up to 266,000 cbm.
