Mexican offshore oil and gas industry has been hit by another fatal accident in a little over a month. Two workers died today in an incident that happened on a jack-up rig in the Bay of Campeche, Mexico.

According to Pemex, Mexico’s national oil company, the accident occurred aboard the Troll Solution jack-up when the rig tilted due to a fault in one of its legs. The two workers who died were employed by the rig provider Typhoon Offshore. Pemex said that 101 workers were evacuated.

The accident happened during the rigs positioning to carry out maintenance work related to the Pemex-operated Caan Alf production platform at the Caan field, a part of the Abkatun-Pol-Chuc complex. Pemex says that production from the Caan field has not been affected.

In its update, Pemex also revealed that the affected rig was continuing to tilt. A photo of the affected rig has been shared on Twitter, apparently leaking oil into the sea. According to Reuters, Pemex has said that the leak is not related to the production platform, but probably comes from diesel stored on the Troll jack-up rig.

To remind, on April 1, 2015, four workers died and three went missing , when an explosion hit the Abkatun Alpha production platform at the Abkatun-Pol-Chuc area, located in the Campeche basin, between the states of Campeche and Tabasco, and approximately 132 km northeast from the Port of Dos Bocas maritime terminal.
