About 200 representatives from the East of England’s energy sector will head to Westminster next month to reinforce its key role in keeping Britain lit and heated.
A reception in the House of Commons is being organised by the East of England Energy Group (EEEGR) to ensure that the government elected at next week’s polls has the East of England at the centre of its energy strategy.
Chief executive Simon Gray said a delegation of EEEGR members would deliver their message to the heart of government with a strong, coherent and coordinated voice.
“It is crucial that the government recognises the importance that the East of England plays in UKplc and in keeping the country energised.
“We have one of the UK’s major gas plants at Bacton, a nuclear pedigree with Sizewell B and hope for Sizewell C and a growing renewables sector, particularly in offshore wind with East Anglia One coming, Dudgeon now under construction and the expectation of Galloper, as well as more East Anglia developments after Anglia One.”
It is hoped that the senior government representation will be at the reception on June 17th for EEEGR’s members to press the case for continued government investment in the region.
“It is all about ensuring that, whatever administration we get after next week’s election, keep our region at the forefront of its strategy in the energy sector.”
EEEGR plans to discuss with politicians what more could be done for the future prospects of gas in the East of England and southern North Sea.
“And we will also be pressing for anything more that could be done fiscally to encourage more oil and gas production and opportunities for decommissioning in the southern North Sea.”

Scottish Power Renewables, developer of East Anglia One, Fred. Olsen Windcarrier, Dudgeon Offshore Wind Farm, the University of East Anglia, Norwich, Senvion, Aker Solutions and ECITB have all committed to sponsoring the event, which is open to members of EEEGR and their guests.
Last year, the reception was addressed by Vince Cable, then Business Secretary, and Eric Pickles, then Communities Secretary.
