Amber Rudd has been appointed as the new Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change on May 11, 2015, following the 2015 UK general election.
Rudd was the Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Department of Energy and Climate Change from July 2014 until May 2015.
She will be replacing Ed Davey.
RenewableUK’s Chief Executive, Maria McCaffery , commented on the appointment:

“We welcome the positive commitments which she has made on reducing carbon emissions, tackling climate change and protecting the environment.
“We are looking forward to working with her and showing how all the technologies we represent: onshore wind, offshore wind and wave & tidal energy, can help achieve these aims, as well as providing energy security and financial growth for the UK.”
The responsibilities of the Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change include amongst others: energy market reform, energy security, department strategy and budgets, Carbon Plan, Renewable Energy Strategy, and 2050 Pathways.
