Helix Well Ops’ new intervention semi-submersible, the Q5000, has set sail from Singapore yesterday, May 11, 2015, on its journey of over 13,000 miles to the Gulf of Mexico.
Helix took delivery of the vessel from Sembcorp Marine’s Jurong Shipyard on May 5, 2015.
Stopping at Mauritius, Namibia and Curacao en route, the vessel will arrive in United States’ waters in the summer of 2015.
Helix says it is in discussions with various parties for work for the vessel for the period from her arrival date until the start of a five year contract in April 2016.
Based upon the Q4000 design, Helix says that the Q5000 is a much larger second generation intervention semi with enhanced capability for subsea intervention, construction and life of field services.
