Enap of Chile is said to be looking for partners with access to LNG to build and operate new power plants in the country.
As Enap’s CEO Marcelo Tokman told Platts, the company intends to find partners before a major government tender for power supplies from 2021.
Under the partnership, the company is offering stakes in four power generation projects that are already underway, namely the 75 MW co-generation plant supplying heat and power to Enap’s Aconcagua refinery and a combined cycle plant at the same site. Two other projects are the 760 MW combined cycle projects near Quintero and Mejillones LNG terminals.
Tokman said the best option would be a new participant in the Chilean market with vast experience and access to competitively priced LNG in order to increase competition in the country.
Enap plans to import the liquefied natural gas through the Quintero terminal that is set for a new expansion to 20 million cubic meters per day from current 15 million cubic meters per day.
