Four major renewable organizations have set up a new Council whose aim is to increase wind, solar, hydro and marine energy opportunities in Canada.
The Canadian Council on Renewable Electricity (CanCORE) was launched by the Canadian Hydropower Association, the Canadian Solar Industries Association, the Canadian Wind Energy Association, and Marine Renewables Canada.
Agreeing that strength lies in numbers, four renewable electricity associations have joined forces in an effort to clean up and expand Canada’s electricity systems.
The Council will work to build public support for increased development Canada’s renewable electricity resources in order to further decarbonize North America’s energy system, CanCORE’s press release reads.
Organizations interesting in joining the Council must meet the following criteria:
Jacob Irving , President of Canadian Hydropower Association, said: “Renewable electricity is a key climate solution for Canada, and when we have surplus capacity we can export it to the United States and support American efforts to displace their coal-fired power plants.”
Elisa Obermann , Executive Director of Marine Renewables Canada, said: “Clean, renewable electricity is the future in Canada and around the world. Canadians are fortunate to be at the forefront of this transition, but there is more work to do to ensure we continue to lead the way.”
