A survey vessel with more than 80 people on board reportedly caught fire early this morning in Peterhead Harbour in the UK.
According to BBC , 84 people were evacuated after fire broke out on Fugro Symphony. It took 35 firefighters to fight the blaze which was brought under control two hours later. No injuries were reported.
BBC further reports that the cause of the fire is still unknown, but it is believed to have started in an electrical switch room.
The survey vessel, operated by Fugro Subsea Services Ltd, Aberdeen, was moored at Merchant’s Quay.
Fugro Symphony is a purpose built ROV support vessel designed to address the demands of the deep water Remote Intervention, Construction & Survey markets.
Offshore Energy Today contacted Fugro Subsea Services and Peterhead Port Authority for confirmation and further info on the incident. We are yet to receive their responses.
Update: Fugro confirms the incident, May 20, 2015, 1.06 p.m. CET
In an e-mail sent to Offshore Energy Today, Fugro confirmed that there was a fire onboard the Fugro Symphony Vessel around 2.30 am this morning.
“The Vessel was docked at Peterhead Harbour at the time of the incident. As a precaution all non-essential personnel onboard were immediately evacuated. No-one was injured.
Emergency services were in attendance and the fire was extinguished. The fire was contained in a small area of the Vessel. All personnel returned to the vessel once it was confirmed safe to do so. A Fugro team are onboard to investigate the cause of the incident,” Fugro said.
