Shell has extended a contract for a Prosafe-owned offshore accommodation rig in the Philippines.

According to the Prosafe, one of the world’s largest suppliers of offshore accommodation rigs, also know as flotels, Shell has decided to award a one month extension for the Safe Astoria unit at the Malampaya Phase 3 Depletion Compression Project offshore Philippines.

Total value of the firm extension period is approximately $5 million.

Safe Astoria was in 2004/2005 converted to an accommodation and service rig at Keppel FELS Shipyard in Singapore. Safe Astoria offers accommodation for 349 persons including facilities for recreation, catering, offices and plant areas.

The rig is linked to the host installation by an automated gangway and can also function as an emergency temporary refuge.
